In. May 2024, on the back of FETE, SAM NOWELL was invited to host a workshop at Greenwich Peninsula's Urban Village Fete. Participants were able to use repurposed fabric including shirting and tablecloths to create wearable Rosettes that would display a pre-printed phrase or one of their choice.

The workshop aimed to echo the spirit of historical practices like Morris Dancing and Rushbearing, where everyday items were creatively repurposed for celebrations. I’ve long loved Rosettes as objects and metaphors for capturing the communities and ceremonies that are essentially redundant. They’re completely over the top in their appearance and are awards or an attribute that is essentially meaningless. I wanted to make Rosettes that were a little tongue in cheek, giving participants the opportunity to crown themselves rather mundane or in fact unfavorable attributes.
